Epic View of Japanese Tsunami in Miyako City

This video really drives home just how powerful and devastating the Tsunami really is.  I always wonder if you could survive by hanging onto something, but you can see in the video, you would get battered into pieces by all the floating debris, or you'ld get bashed into a building or sucked into an open window.

Epic 1000 Year Earthquake Hits Japan

I'm still reeling at the news of the devastation caused the the strongest earthquake to hit Japan in recorded history  News of the 8.9 point earthquake, 30 feet Tsunami and 7+ point after shocks devasting the country overwhelm the media.  Death toll at over 1000 dead.

I first saw the news when picking up my feed at MyModernmet.com

They have stunning pictures from In Focus at the Atlantic, with Alan Taylor

Some of his epic footage below.

More epic photos at the Globe and Mail.

Here is an eyewitness description from a local teacher. Entire story at Reddit.

I was just about to prepare for a 3:30 class (i'm a teacher) when the thing hit. All of us int he office looked at each other, seeing who would take the initiative. Then I remembered everything I was taught, all the drills and so on. I went towards the door to hold it open, making sure it didn't trap us in. A colleague then held the other door open, the one leading to the field. But the quake kept getting stronger and stronger. One of the guys in the office ran out the door and into the field - i followed. Once i got to the field i was expecting it to stop, but it didn't it just kep getting stronger and stronger. It was very difficult to stand, and you could even see the buildings around you swaying from side to side.

The kids were evacuated and asked to sit down in the middle of the field, which they did - no casualties, no problems at all. I noticed that the kids were having fun and it was us grownups who were scared shitless. Parents started arriving, and all the while we are still feeling strong aftershocks. Today i saw more parents crying that kids.

The quake and subsequent tsunami also caused a giant whirlpool. You can see how big it is by checking out the size of the boat caught in it.

Epicview Mirror Shows 360 Degree Views!

Ladies? Ever need a way to see all the way around while getting ready? Check out this Epic 360 Mirror! The 360 Mirror consists of a main mirror that's mounted on a wall.  6 additional mirrors telescope out, 3 on either side.  The mirror will extend around the viewer giving a 360 degree view, back of the head and all!

I had filed this away, ages ago and just now rediscovered it.  Sadly, it doesn't appear to be available on Amazon.com.  Now, if I can just find about 200 of these, then I can finally finish building my solar powered death ray!

Epic a Capella - Such Great Heights!

Ever wonder about all the little pieces of music that make up an awesome composition?  This Epic a cappella from Dave Wallace and Chelsea-Lynn Heins shows just how incredibly intricate "Such Great Heights"  (by The Postal Service) is.  It's one of the best a capella pieces that I've seen.  I definitely rate it as an Epicview!

How about you? Have you seen a truly remarkable a capella performance?

Dave Wallace and Chelsea-Lynn's Epic A Cappella. Enjoy!

Equilibrio - Epic Block Building Game

We've go about 100,000 Legos lying around, all part if one kit or another.  I've given up hope of ever assembling the set or vehicle that we originally purchased.  But I still like the concept of toys that encourages my son to build and use his imigination.

That's why the award winning Equilibrio blocks intrigue me.  They're precisely cut wooden blocks that fit together to build unique structures. But it's also a puzzle. You are challenged to build first easy, then more complex structures. It's excellent for developing a child's motor skills, balance, problem solving, geometry and other skills.  You can even get additional books with more architectural puzzles to solve.

Equilibrio building blocks are truly Epic!

Nick Vujicic's Epic View of Life

This is one of those videos that totally changes how you look at life.  I showed this to my son, hoping to teach him that seemingly impossible challenges can be overcome and that life already contains countless precious gifts -- you simply had to open your eyes to see them.  As we watched it together, I realized that Nick Vujicic's message was even more powerful for me.  I could fully comprehend all of obstacles that he had to overcome and the awesome strength, courage and heart he has.

Too often, we dream of the things that we hope to obtain, without realizing the wonderful things that we already have. Being thankful for the gifts you have in life. I am thankful to Nick Vujicic  . . . for sharing his Epic View of life!

Woman Eaten Alive by African Larva!

We all know that women have a higher pain threshold then men.  Guys, if you felt as if a frozen knitting needle was being repeatedly stabbed into your arm, wouldn't you go to the ER?  Besides, a damaged arm would seriously interfere with our video gaming skilz.

Now, granted, the woman eventually goes to the hospital to have it checked out.  But only because it was on the way to her next destination.  The hospital promptly quarantined her for myiasis.  Which, in layman's terms means, being fuckin eaten alive by a fly maggot.

"Dude, I think something's wrong with my arm?"

Then again, guys can be pretty dense sometimes.

Epic Wolves in the Flesh!

Have you ever seen a real, live wolf ? Not in zoo, behind an enclosure, but up close and in your face?

If I had to choose a totem animal, the wolf wouldn't be my first choice. I don't consider myself a wolf person.  But I guess I've had wolf on the brain ever since I read White Fang as a kid.

To me, White Fang was like Conan the Barbarian of the canine world. Swift! Savage! An unrivaled killer who crushes his enemies, drives them before him and hears the lamentations of their . . . owner.

Ok, maybe he was more like the Bruce Lee of the wolf world; unmatched; undefeatable. White Fang has got to be the most badass fighter this side

Fire and Ice - Epic Art!

Fire & Ice
Actually, it is called "Alley by the Lake" by Leanid Afremov. Wow! I love the way the red, orange colors of the lights and leaves contrast with the blue, black hues of the night.  And yet, despite being opposites, the colors fit together beautifully!.

Epic Autonomous Robots Bring us a Step Closer to the Jetsons

Kiva Mobile Fulfillment Center - like Roombas on steroids!

Nearly every magazine that's ever featured a home or technology of the future article has predicted that we would have intelligent, fully independent robots performing most of our manual labor chores by now.  Sadly our progress has been very disappointing.

We still have to clean and vacuum.  We have to do laundry, shovel the snow, and mow the grass. And cooking is still a chore; we haven't invented a machine where you can press a button and a fully prepared meal materializes (although, the cell phone comes close to accomplishing this)

Yet, some small progress has been made.  In 2002, iRobot Corporation introduced
